A bad sounding knock

While cooking this weekend, I kept the lid open while reducing a bourbon sauce, I heard a big knock. Haven't had a chance to investigate yet but is this normal? Thinking I might have blown the bottom out of my xl!

Maybe you were doing other things with that bourbon

sometimes the metal hardware (bands, springs, hinges can shift and pop when they get too hot and expand. More llikely that than blowing your egg out. Make sure your hardware is all in alignment before using againKeepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX

I had a similar noise heating up a cast-iron grid.
The fire was strongest in back (12-1 o'clock), and it must have expanded to fast and it cracked 3 cross bars.Bx - > NJ ->TX!!!All to get cheaper brisket! -
I had that happen and my grate that the lump sits on had cracked. Don't know if that is covered under warranty or not.
