I have an LBGE, the BGE brand rib rack, and the BGE brand drip pan. It looks to me like I max out at 6 half racks (3 whole racks halfed) of ribs. But, I've never tried ribs so I don't know. This weekend will be my first time making ribs and I'll be feeding 8. Please advise.
I left the Discussion Title open ended so that people can comment on their experiences with Eggs of all sizes and this thread can be more generally useful. (Yeah, I'm just that kind of community minded fellow.)
I finally took the plunge and bought my large Big Green Easter Egg from Roswell Hardware in Roswell, GA 03/31/2012

Okay, I will NOT be using the walls of the Egg to hold up the ribs. I'm looking for other suggestions. ;-)I finally took the plunge and bought my large Big Green Easter Egg from Roswell Hardware in Roswell, GA 03/31/2012

So, what I'm taking away from this is that I don't have to split my racks in half. That means the BGE brand rack can easily do 6 full racks, without customization or making a mess of my grill? you can line the walls with foil to keep things clean, its a trick used when cooking big cuts like a 17 pound brisket

3 racks cut in half fit very easily on a Large with plenty of room to breathe. Obviously you can do more if you arrange them correctly and get creative.

For some reason, and I don't know why, I'm not fond of cooking ribs upright. I have nothing to base this fear on, it's just in my head. When I need to cook lots of ribs I use a modified homemade nuts/washers/bolts grid extender. I just use more nuts and washers and put grids 2 Inches apart along the length of the bolts.

this uses an adjustable rig, but with a second rib rack and a second grid(cheap weber grid from ome depot, you could do the same thing. with this setup there is room for more

I've easily gotten 8 racks on the adjustable rig with rib racks....very similar to fishlessman's pic.
