I have made the decision to purchase the XL BGE and would like to know if I should check to be sure the one I buy from my supplier is the newest version. I have heard that there have been changes made to the XL in the last couple of years, and I want to be sure I get the current model.
If so, what should I look for that will identify if it is the most current model?
Thanks to everyone for such GREAT ideas! This forum had a lot to do with me making the decision to become an egghead.

I would ask.....but you could also go on the BGE site and note the details/features so you know what to look for. However, these things last forever so unless there is some new feature not sure you would miss out on anything.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

I did find this when they made a change to the XL last year.

I will do that. Thanks!

I think they did make some fairly significant changes to the design of the XL in the past couple of years. The old style has a "squatty" looking dome, and the newer style is rounded. I think you want to make sure not to get a squatty one .Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Yes, the dome is a little taller, and all of the newer nest have locking wheels.

You should not have to worry about getting an old XL, unless your supplier has had them in the warehouse a long time. Just check the nest, make sure you get the nest with locking front casters. And spend the extra money and get a nest handler, it will make your life so much easier when you have to move it.

Everything you ever wanted to know about the differences between the two:

Choke on Smoke, those are both of the old style models with the short dome. The "guts" changed slightly and Fred did a review of it. There is a newer version with a taller dome that is more rounded and makes the profile taller.

My mistake, I never watched the video, I just assumed they did the insides and the taller dome at the same time.
I bought my XL last July with the new taller dome.

I just watched Fred's video and now have at least some idea of what to look for in the newer version. I tend to be a little suspicious of retailers trying to unload previous model years to make room for new. Thanks for everyones help.
