I recently told an auctioneer friend of mine that if he had any housholkd sales coming up, I am looking for some CI cookware for my egg. Right away he tells me he has a CI DO in his truck he would sell me for what he gave for it, $20.00. Here it is a Griswold 8qt. either stainless or chrome plated DO in excellent condition. I can tell it has not been used in years so would like to start by reconditioning it. My question is if the chrome or stainless plating prevents me from using the normal reconditioning methods I have been reading about online for CI. Looking for ideas and reconditioning techniques.

I just finished using the Sheryl Canter method on a couple of pieces of Lodge CI (DO and pizza pan) - haven't has a chance to use it, but looks pretty good - doesn't look like her Griswald stuff though - much darker.
Don't know what to do about the special coatings mentioned though.South SLO County -
Scrub it with salad oil and coarse salt using paper towels. Then scrub again until it is clean and smoothe.
