Account on a 1/2 per person and have a good amount of side dishes and you should be in good shape. If anything try to fit a raw weight of 27 - 30 lbs and you will have leftovers.

1/2 lbs per person....oops missed that
-
Thank you.

With 40% shrink and figuring 1/3 lb per person, you will need 10 lbs of cooked meat which translates into about 17 lbs of raw. If you get 2 - 9 lb butts, you should be fine.

Men,women, children, number of sides and appetizers???.Cool thing is Pulled pork is cheap and freezes well.Err on the side of caution.Vac seal the leftovers and use em at a later date.I saw a formula on here once someone came up with.I THINK you DIVIDE the number of guests by 2.4 and that tells you how many pounds of UNcooked pork to cook.I wing it,one butt(7-9) pounds feeds 8-10 people.Keep in mind,I feed HOGS!
IF that formula is correct...30 divided by 2.4= 12.5 lbs of uncooked(raw) meat.Sounds kinda light to me.Good Luck! -
To divide by 2.4 figures a 40% shrink and 1/4 lb of meat per person. It does seem on the light side, especially if the pork is self serve.

I always overcook - but I did 2 5lb butts last Sunday and it was enough for 12 people.
I'd decide how long I want to cook, then buy butts in a size to suit that cooking schedule. Two 9 lb butts would work, but so would four 5 pounders. If you have the space to keep them from jamming together, the 5 lb will cook a lot quicker. -
I'm feeding my coworkers today. There will be about 13 people and I did about 20 pounds of butts.
My coworkers are very fat. -
For future reference, here's a guide (#89) that will help. Happy grillin'!!

I would assume about half a pound per person. Take into account that a butt loses 40% of its weight during a cook. You might want to 20 to 25 pounds of butt on the egg for that many folks.
I usually run under more food than we know what to do with premise when I do BBQs. Usually I send people home with ziplock bags full of leftovers.
