About your Rutland gasket inquiry...
Since 2002 I have sold Rutland gaskets as a service to fellow eggers. To date I have sold 1,031 gaskets to people in 42 states and 9 foreign countries!
I purchase the gasket on reels which have 157 feet. That way I can sell the length needed for each size egg. As a for instance for an XL egg you need 9 feet or 108 inches of gasket so that you only have 2 butt ends instead of buying 2 Rutland kits from say ACE Hardware or Amazon of only 7 feet (84 inches) and then having 4 butt ends plus throwing away the remaining 5 feet of gasket!
You apply the gasket using an automotive product called Permatex Ultra Copper – which I do NOT supply since most every automotive supply chain store in the US carries the Permatex. It is a high temperature silicone gasket maker which acts as an adhesive to bond the Rutland to your cooker’s ceramic edge. Years later if you wish to remove it, it will come off.
Are you familiar with the application process whereby you "bunch" the gasket back into itself thus making it both thicker and wider than the 5/8" so as to cover your entire edge? In doing so you only apply the Rutland on one side only - not both. Here’s the link to a picture of what I mean by “bunching”.
If that link doesn’t work then cut and paste this link:
The total cost for the gasket including the postage shipped in the USA for an XL is $13.00. If you live in Canada the price is slightly higher due to higher postage rates. I also will send a detailed set of instructions for installation. BTW if you want to order a gasket for more than one egg, like for an egger buddy, just ask me for a quote.
I'll just need your mailing address and it will ship tomorrow. If for some reason you really do need me to buy the Permatex and then mail it to you then the price and postage will be $22 instead of $13, but trust me Permatex is a very commonly found product.
After I have confirmed it has been shipped I will give you my address so your check and the gasket can cross in the mail. It's just that easy!
