I have always put my burgers on the grate until the other day. I uses my flat iron skillet laid on top of the grate. Put a few pats of butter with plenty of sliced onion and laid the burgers in with it. It was so much better than straight on the grate. The experts will tell you the best burger is fried in its own fat. I say the best burger is fried in its own fat on the BGE!
