We brought home the demo egg on Saturday. Today was the first time I got to try it out! IT IS AMAZING!! I'm waiting for some stuff to ship from the ceramic grill store, so right now I don't have a platesetter. I grilled chicken legs - I used a brick wrapped in tin foil to elevate the legs. They were the best BBQ'd chicken I think I have ever had! Tonight is grilled salmon, baked potatoes, and corn on the cob! It's just fun to use!!
I'm planning a turkey breast. Actually it was my husband's idea. I just went out to prep the egg and it is frozen shut. So I'm working on getting that problem resolved and then prepping the egg tonight. Forecast has us getting 12 to 18 inches as well with blizzard-like conditions. Planning on pulling the egg closer to the house because we'll probably be losing power and we'll have to rely on the egg for our meals. That is the only reason we have the egg. The two years we lost power for a few weeks and lost everything from the refrigerator because we have electric for cooking - the second time it happened was the year my husband agreed to letting me get my egg.
Thanks everybody. It is now open! Starter cube thru the bottom vent worked just fine. We're in the middle of an ice storm here. I will try the aluminum foil during the shutdown. I'll consider the stainless smoke ware cap. This forum is the best. Really appreciate the help.
Ok so today I returned the dutch oven to Harbor Freight. When they asked me why I told them that I hadn't realized it was made in China and how, knowing that, I felt from a safety standpoint it was an unwise purchase. Well they looked at me as though I had two heads, but they let me keep the flashlight!
I'm done torturing myself. Just ordered the 7 Qt. Lodge DO and a trivet from Walmart. I figure I can easily return it if I think it's too small. I saw an enameled CI Cuisinart 7 qt. DO tonight at Marshals - it looked plenty big. Almost got that one, but figured the regular CI is better with the egg. Now I just need to start checking out some recipes......
