  • Re: Should I?

Asking for opinions of strangers and others on an internet forum about how one should spend their own money is a complete waste of time, and often brings out the worst online bahvior in a few responders (Dobie in this instance) as well as more than too many differing opinions putting you basically back to....square one in the decisioning process anyway.

If by asking so many experts you think you'll avoid some type of "purchase mistake" it wont, and taking group advice(s) actually may sway you away from your own gut desire, towards something others see more fit for you...most of us don't "know" each other that way and those of us that do likely exchange ideas and advice offline.

But its not their purchase and they arent you. Do what YOU feel is best...what do YOU want? Assuming were all over 18 here, our decision making skills are likely as good as they are going to be, and well frankly, a BGE isnt a life-changing decision. It's a bbq!

I think I understand what Dobie (very uneloquently) is saying, and I agree with the sentiment.  Buy what you want....youre the one paying for it and will be using it. And at the end of the day, nobody gives a rip about what you choose, except for you.

Good luck man....do whats right for you.

All I know is, since 2008 BGE has replace at no cost to me, 2 gaskets, 2 fire boxes and fire rings, a lower base and a lump grate.  The lifetime warranty is significant in my book.
Reminds me of the old adage:

I had an axe once that lasted 35 years. All it had was 3 new heads and 4 new handles.

My point is, maybe the quality of the BGE isn't the compelling proposition here, the warranty is. That said, there are other kamados of similar construction, with similar weaknesses, and with similar warranties.

The longevity/stability to-date of BGE as a company is it's major differentiating characteristic vs others. That doesnt mean (to me) that BGE is a better product product than others it just means its a company which has been around, and honorable to its customers longer than the "younger" companies which have entered the market more recently. (Think Toyota, Honda, and much more recently Kia etc...all once "unknowns" in the car industry but not now)

All this rhetoric about ceramics, etc is just white noise.

As much as I hate to admit it worldwide, I would eat those. Theres beauty under that bark.....maybe just a little but Id go looking for it!

A $5 meat thermometer works just fine (and has for decades)
  • Re: Considering adding a MiniMax

Value is in the eye of the beholder. One man's ceiling is another man's floor. Or loosely translated; I only care about how MY money is spent...
