We hope everyone enjoyed their Fourth of July weekend and is excited for more warm weather grilling! This week, we’ll be making these two burgers: Stuffed Portobello Mushroom and Caribbean Chicken, and also eating lots of these Ice Cream Sandwiches in honor of National Ice Cream Month!     I'd consider the KJ Jr, but no spark screen is a deal breaker.  (Weird - my KJ classic DOES have a spark screen - of sorts..the vertical front of the ash drawer has a bunch of small holes in it - which seems to work very well..why they didn't do this on the Jr is a mystery..)  Plus, I'm still not 100% sure the KJ turns out as good of food as my Mini just based on what we've cooked so far..

    Sorry, but I cant see any reason why the food isnt as good off of one Kamado, as another....its more the cook than the subtle differences in the equipment that comes into play. Sounds like green Kool-Aid to me.

    Best Chicken sammiches in the fast-food universe, as well as customer service. Thats what they peddle...their underlying politics and beliefs are their constitutional right...and everyone and every business has a right to have them. (Take a peek under an In-and-Cup sometime. Disney). Vote with your pocketbook, but don't vilify them for standing for that they believe in. Thats what makes America great (even if you dont agree with the opinion.)

    Yup! The thermapen is by far the most crucial piece I own when it comes to cooking. I would be lost without it

    Haha-You might be surprised....people have been cooking for years....decades, centuries, eons without technology like this. Art, not science. If you're turning out great food without you're already there! Meat, heat, and a desire to create are the most crucial elements of cooking, not some piece of always-soon-to-be-obsolete electronics (in my opinion) Have fun, and eat well!

    Anytime you play with fire, you need to exercise caution and expect the unexpected. I wouldnt let the lack of a screen keep me from buying a KJ Jr., nor do I consider the inclusion of a screen on my BGE a fail-safe against potential fire hazard. End of the day, if I light a fire in a BBQ or anywhere, I feel responsible for it.

    Just like any other product, none of them are perfect. Every manufactured product has it's weaknesses and idiosyncrasies. BGE too. Every manufacturer of similar products chooses to interpret their creation differently than their competitors do. I havent seen a KJ Jr in person, but since I own BGE AND Visions brand grills I can tell you what I think are strengths and weaknessses of both, but at the end of the day they both work...quite well and produce tasty food at my skilled hands. Neither is falling apart, and yes Ive had warranty interraction with both manufacturers to a speedy and satisfactory resolution. I know this is a "Big Green Egg" centric forum, but since we spend much time talking about other related and non-related topics from sous vide to outdoor kitchens, I cant help but chuckle at those who seriously consider one brand of kamado cooker heads and shoulders "better" than the others. Really? How so? They all break occasionally, they all require gaskets, and they all produce damn fine eats. Some people prefer to spend "X" for theirs, while some some prefer "X +" but that doesnt make "X+" better, just more expensive. No brand snobbery here, I love em all, and its all about the food at my place, not the brand name it came off of.
