I'm at just under 6100 feet. Cooks take longer than at sea level and I definitely burn more fuel from what I'm reading here. Takes longer to start a fire, too, and to get up to temperature. Less O2 at higher altitudes.
I have a question. I thought that it was necessary, or at least recommended, to use a drip pan when going low and slow. I see some aluminum foil, but I can't see if it's acting as a drip pan.
Bottom line: Is it perfectly okay to use the plate sette…
Someone had a good idea of lighting a few fire starters and sending them down the dome.

Seems reasonable.
Another popular recipe is discussed here. http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/comment/1229480/
It's NY-style pastrami, if that's your intended goal. Make two so that you can wolf one down as soon as it's ready and you'll have the second one…
wts70mc: You probably know by now, but the reboot just reboots the unit. It doesn't reset it to factory defaults.
Pressing the up and down arrow at the same time does reset all settings to factory defaults, but doesn't reset the firmware to factory…
Thanks for the clarification. That would make it 10 PM CST tonight.
I ordered a bag of WW for 50% off. I was planning to go to Ace to buy a bag of BGE since it's normally $29.95 and would qualify, but I decided the better deal was ordering a bag of…
If you order online, make sure that you order by 10 AM CST. I tried to order from the west coast yesterday at 9 AM local for 20% off, and found out too late and the code was declined.
I ordered some off of the Ace Hardware website last night before I saw this thread. I did a search and found:
http://www.dealigg.com/story-Ace-Hardware-coupons-Ace-Hardware-coupon-code and many similar sites offering online coupons.
Will Google it b…
I don't want to step on my wife's toes by taking over or even supplementing her traditional 40+ year job of doing the turkey. That's the real problem, not that the practice BGE turkey was really dry. It occurred to me that she doesn't want to be rep…
I agree that it is an air flow problem. After just 4+ hours of L+S, plus an additional first hour of getting the BGE up to a solid 235, there is enough air restriction in the grate to slow down the temperature climb. That, plus the altitude, makes i…
krobertsmsn: You didn't overlook anything. There have been many discussions about this since the spring. Here's a link to a discussion on the Brethren.

There are problems with certain routers…
Seared on Weber gasser at 550 about 1 minute each side about 4 minutes total. It takes me too long to get up to 550 degrees at my altitude. It would be over an hour and, most importantly, "It was a dark and stormy night..."
I just did a 3.71 pounder today (first time with this cut of meat). Wally-world on sale for $4.88 for Choice. I live at 6000' feet and cooked it at 235 dome for 4.25 hours using a CyberQ Wifi to monitor and keep it honest. Really helped out using …
I have this one, too, I think. My problem is that if the baby back ribs are cut in half for smoking, the ribs are too short to reach across both sides of the rib rack and they fall through on one end. Not good for 1/2 racks. Good for everything else.
You have to turn on port forwarding on the router.
The router doesn't know that you want the CyberQ and not the router itself. That way, when a request comes in to that ip, your router will forward the port 80 traffic to the CyberQ.
Good luck.
Looks fab. Beautiful golden color. At what temperature did you have the egg at? I also like the way you shield the cable. Great idea, too. Do you change the foil every cook? I think you might. Did you put OO on the skin. Just so very nice looking. …
I thought that it was salty at first off the egg, but I think the steaming process the next day fixed it a bit. The water was quite salty after steaming. I agree that it needs to be soaked a bit more before applying the rub. Even made your own bread…
Natgporter:
All that I have to say is thank you for bringing this potential problem to my attention. I think that I came close to cutting myself a few times on my 4 month old XL. Going forward, I'll be more careful. What I learned here about clean…
