  •   Eggcelsior said: Are you talking about beef back ribs, chuck short ribs, or plate short ribs?.  Good question.  Definitely not short ribs.  I can find them everywhere.  I think I'm looking for beef back ribs.  I haven't cooked with them …
  • OK, thanks.  I'll check our Walmart and Wegmans in Germantown.
  • When I built mine, I washed all the pieces in the sink with dish soap and rinsed several times.  After assembly, the whole thing sat in a hot Egg after I finished cooking some steaks.
  • Seriously?!!!  That will fit in an XL?  Wow!  I cooked a 70lb whole pig on the spit and the spit was 3x5.
  • I just use a cloth oven mitt.  It takes about 5 seconds before I can feel the heat, but by then it's safely out of the way.
  • I'm planning to do my first on Thursday and will also be deep frying several birds for the first time with several friends. The Egged bird is 15 pounds.  I have my doubts it will fit in my medium egg if I lay it flat on top of a grate on top of the …
  • I've used the TJ brand before.  Too much ash and it didn't get as hot as lump to give me a satisfactory sear on my steaks.  The problem I find with briquettes--this and Kingsford--is that they get a thick ash layer on the briquettes and that seems t…
  • Having just done my first overnight cook this weekend and was thinking that going the Guru route would be ideal.  However, this got me thinking about how these things work.  With my primitive setup, I open and close the vents on the top and bottom t…
  • Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone.  The pork came out great.  There was a good mix of super moist meat with yummy crunchy pieces here and there.  Nothing was inedible.  The dogs got the bones so everyone left the party happy. I'll look …
  • 7:30am. Luckily the kids stomping around upstairs woke me up. Checked the cam and Egg was still sitting at 250 and pig was at 204.  Started up the coffee maker and got outside and took it off the Egg.  It's sitting in a dish under foil. Party starts…
  • 1:50am. Went to sleep on couch with Egg at 225 and shoulder at 192.  Yeah, I was worried it would hit 200 too soon.  Buy Maverick dual probe wireless BBQ thermometer off Amazon. Set an alarm for 3am 3:00am. Checked my Egg cam.  Egg still at 225 and …
  • 8.5lb bone in pork shoulder.  I did an injection marinade last night similar to the recipe I did last year for the whole pig.  Then dry rub of spices before I put it in the egg. I'm shooting for 250deg.  I had to do a Home Depot run and it was at 32…
  • Thanks to member td66snrf, the egg is as good as new! Anyone who wants a lid band that fits a medium egg, let me know.  You can have it for the cost of shipping.  You do have to repair the band first, though.  Seems like the back of the rivet is not…
  • td66snrf, PM sent.  Thank you.
  • The metal hinge sticking up used to be joined to the side of the lid--where you see that little flat rust area.  Yes, I realize I could buy a new band, but then it would feel like much less of a bargain. My thinking was to remove the bands, drill ou…
