Walmart around here have a cordless meat Thermometer for $16. I like it better than my Maverick, except for no cooker probe. Also If fried probes are from Maverick read the owners manual, they will replace fried probes.
I just bought the nomex gasket yesterday and have not yet installed it, but check out Fred's site http://www.fredsmusicandbbq.com he has a 3 part video on how to install a nomex gasket, that I thought was very helpful.
I always read the negative reviews to see if what bothers them would bother me. The good reviews to me are worthless since most of them are generic this product is great, but the negatives tend to provide more info when you weed out the whiners.
