Egret's Chili - Wimp Version...

Not spice wimp, weather wimp. It's been cold and rainy and dreary all day. I'm in my office with a full kitchen and business is dead. I decided to try out Egret's chili recipe on the stove top. I'm sure it would be better if I had done it on the Egg, but it is pretty darn good like this, and the office smells heavenly.

I'm sure Egret's chili would be great no matter where you cook it. Too bad the weather is lousy. I wish you good eggin weather this weekend!Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

Jeff,
You have a full kitchen in your office? Hiring?

Jeff,
What Little Steven said, he just beat me to it. If you have a beer fridge too, then I might have a clue about the state of business. Just saying.
So, is that recipe posted somewhere? It is going down to the 50's at night here soon, so I need to be prepared to snuggle in!
Thanks for posting. -
Sounds great! I've done it both ways and the egged version is some better due to the hint of smoke. I also sometimes finish it off on the range top after doing the meat on the egg. It always turns out pretty darn good........IMO!

I did this a few weeks ago and it was outstanding.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
I must say, I was a little reluctant of the amount of chili powder, chilies, etc. that the recipe called for. The result was definitely spicy, but not overwhelming. I'm looking forward to using it to top a dog!

Uh, no, not hiring. In fact, I think I'm going to have to go to work for someone else, for the first time in 25 years. It'll kill me. Currently my office is about 40 steps from my house.

There's beer in the fridge, but it's not a beer fridge. Am I in the clear?
-
Wait until you try the version that has been in the fridge for a day or so - the flavors enrich with age - not spicier, just more flavorful!
-
Yup, you are in the clear. As long as there is anything else besides beer in the fridge, it is not a beer fridge. That is my story and I'm sticking to it.
I'm in the same boat, been running a small company for 20+ years. Downsized it and starting everyone working "virtual" out of their homes to save the rent. Now, it is looking like I'm gonna have to figure out how to get hired by someone else. It stinks, but lots of us in this boat, and many others don't even have a boat.
Good luck to you and thanks for posting. - Scott -
Thanks for the link, Smokey. I'll be trying it with the leftover turkey in about a week.
-
I've not tried turkey in a red chili before. Might have to try that. I've had some wicked good white chili with turkey, though.
If you don't use all your leftovers in the chili, try this Mexican Turkey Stew. I made it last week with the leftovers from my spatchcock turkey test. This is some good stuff.
