Well. here we go... hard to photograph this one, as it goes all the way around as well as literally over the top (of the pumpkin).
it's called "The Last Voyage of the Whaler Recompynse"
here's a shot of a good chunk of the 'front'
Detail of the men caught in the tractor beam
the men in longboat two, unable to do a damned thing... hahaha
Details of two of the UFOs (with requisite laser beams assailing the whaling ship and men in the long boats)
Mentioned the idea on the OT forum, but basically it plays with the concept of Alien Abduction.
From the Whale's point of view, the Whalers are unimaginable aliens, coming from another world to randomly attack. From the Whalers' perspective, it's all perfectly acceptable. ...until the whalers themselves are abducted too.
Three aliens ships matched by three alien ships... The nearest one is directly overhead, and is lifting a longboat from the water.
Here's a movie (might take a while to load, dunno how to make it smaller yet)...
that scream is a pain... i dialed the volume down but it still plays too loud. ah well.
included a so-called 'easter egg' in the pumpkin, toward the end, as the movie pans left away from the longboats, you might be able to pick out a humpback whale which is spouting, with another whale in front of him, tail in the air as it readies to dive.
here.
The whales, in this case, get away.. The crew of 'The Recompynse', unfortunately, is not so lucky... Payback (or 'recompense').
The movie is a little fuzzy, hard to shoot in low light. ...really needs to be seen in person, which is one of the things i like most about doing these. the don't last forever, and the need to be seen up close. Anyway, hope you get a kick out of it.
inspired by a bottle of Maudite, and the vastness of the ocean at night.

Couldn't load the movie (older mac software) but the pics are amazing. How long did it take to carve?

Stike - that is awesome! Hard to believe it is a pumpkin - more a work of art! Incredible work...
Happy Halloween! -
Very good Jeff. It sure looks like you put a lot of work into this. The carving and video are very good. I have to ask was that Fidel's voice screaming in the video? Tim :woohoo:
-
WOW!! awesome

Just amazing! Do you have pictures of past works?
-
The only thing heard from me in any video of stike's is a bevy of porcine-like squeals.

Here is a link to some of his previous stuff.

Hi Jeff
Captain Ahab, Ishmael, Starbuck and Queequeg thought they had it rough! That is awesome Jeff and it was worth the wait. The only thing wrong is that now we have to wait another year for you to do it again.
Thank you Jeff, I am a big fan of your art work,
Blair

Might not be up to your high standards of past carvings but I would give you an A+ for originality alone.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas

Stike, I've only been around the forum for a couple of years and have always enjoyed seeing your pumpkin carvings. I do have to admit that after I see them I think I may be closer to 'normal' than family and friends accuse me of. Keep carving and posting. Mike

Stike, This year I carved the best pumpkin I'd ever carved. After looking at your pumkin, I went out and smashed mine! That is amazing!

We wondered when you would post this years carving. The kids over at the local middle school art class will no doubt draw inspiration again. And no, they won't fork over a royalty payment this year, either!
