Handling Platesetter

So I have been thinking about doing the breakfast throwdown. With the potential of cooking foods requiring varied cooking methods should I expect issues around cooking indirect then having to remove a piping hot platesetter? Obviously it will be hot as hell. With the thing shatter from the quick difference of temp going from the egg to the cool ground?

Stand it on its side by leaning it against something. Doing this, mine has not shattered yet.

It won't shatter. Just wear the proper protection and land it softly.
Good luck on the throwdown.Molly

Eddie,
A true egger can handle a hot platesetter with bare hands. Scar tissue and mind over matter

Steven - you are SOOOOOOOOO bad! I know you electricians have a weird sense of humor having seen a couple of them arc electricity from a live wire through their index finger and thumb! NUTSO I say!!!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

It should be fine. I've taken mine out in the winter before with no ill effects. I have a pair of silicone gloves I got at Walmart or someplace in the home goods section. You'll feel the heat it just takes a few seconds so you grab it and put it where you want it....don't go standing there holding it too long.

I use a pair of welder gloves I got from Home Depot. I agree with the soft landing.

Welding gloves and plan ahead. The platesetter will be fine, but if you lift it out of the egg then start looking for a place to put it you will quickly catch the odor of smoking flesh, yours  :(
