I really like Thanksgiving dinner, so I thought, "Why not celebrate with our northern brothers?" So I egged a 7.5 lb natural turkey breast with the trimmings: dresssing, gravy, roasted yams, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, green bean cassarole, and an apple pie.(No pumpkin pie, because I just picked some Northern Spies that I was eager to use.)
The turkey breast with rosemary, sage, thyme, and butter for the rub:
Turkey prepped wth the compound butter under the skin and on top and plopped on the egg, indirect. I threw on some beets to make soup from later this week.
The roasted turkey:
It was 80 degrees so we dined alfresco:
The plated dinner:
Dessert was a homemade apple pie with Northern Spy and Golden Delicious Apples with caveman coffee. I tried a pie crust with 1/2 Crisco and 1/2 butter with 1/2 vodka and 1/2 water.
Pie coming off the egg:
I hope all our Canadian neighbors had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!

That looked DELICIOUS, Rebecca! I bet your honor of Thanksgiving Day for our friends to the North will ease the LaBomba embargo that Little Steven has single-handedly waged on the USA!
Seriously...I have triple checked my email and have never found my invitation to your feast today! Are you sure you sent it?Re-gasketing America one yard at a time. -
bill, you have a standing invitation whenever you're in the Dayton area!
-
Rebecca ... that looks delicious! The turkey is perfect and the pie, oh my.
-
Wow Webecca Wotafeast - Thanks for sharing
-
GOODGOSHAMITEE!!! What a SPREAD! It all looks DIVINE!
-
I have some peppers I want to send you. Please email me your mailing address.

Rebecca: That looks wonderful!! And green bean casserole to boot... I eat green bean casserole only once a year, but it just isn't Thanksgiving without it! And I see it was still day-light when it was served...so you must be doing better with your timing. :woohoo:
-
Ron, I'll do anything to try to stop that La Bomba embargo, lol!
I was working with Liquid Fence this weekend, so I thought I would spare you the invitation. -
Thanks Dale! Next time I make the pie, it will be without the vodka in the crust. Despite Cooks Illustrated stating that it would impart no flavor because it all would evaporate, my sister said she could taste the vodka.
-
Thank you wewy much Fwank!
-
Hoss, I do believe I've learned a new adjective from you!
I'll shot you email soon......I can tell this has to do with your harvest! BTW, I had some of your pickled green beans in Flordia at the minifest. They were delicious! -
Michelle, how astute!
Yes, we ate before sunset. Dinner was "on time" for once.
The green bean cassorole was courtesy of my sister. I know what you mean.....gotta have it once a year, lol. I did the Cook's Illustrated version about two years ago and it was not requested again. Oh well. -
ooooooooooooooooh! Thank you! There is a persistent rumor around here about an arrogant person who did not heed the warning about that product and just threw it in the trunk of their $80K Lexus because his wife said don't come home without it! You can imagine the rest of the rumor!
Rumor or not that stuff is BAD!!!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time. -
WOW!!! Rebecca, that looks absolutely perfect! That has always been one of my favoretist meals ever and I love the traditional menu. I can't imagine it looking any better. Thanks for the wonderful post and great photographs. I can't wait to see what you do next month. :cheer:
Thanks for sharing,
Blair

If you move closer I will eat dinner all the time at your place. Do you deliver or ship?
-
Wow sister, you've outdone your northern brothers by miles (well, at least this one for sure), and it's not even your Thanksgiving! btw, hope you didn't serve the apple pies to minors :P

Your pics look like they came right off the pages of a Martha Stewart magazine! Even better! We had a great thanksgiving and when yours comes around next month, I'll probably be celebrating again just like you!
-
Eenie, we use that same pie recipe all the time and never taste the vodka. It evaporates. Did you cook your apples?
-
Great looking meal Rebecca, I'm sure it was delicious

Hi Rebecca.
Thanks for sharing. Great looking feast. I especially like the apple pie.
The weather in Mississauga was very nice but we couldn't have eaten outside without a net to catch the leaves.
Michael -
Yeaaaa it's all very nice Rebecca...but what about your southern brothers???? :(
-
Rebecca,
Very nice looking meal. Where did you do the dressing? Under the breast?
