I had some co-workers over for a cookout 2 weeks ago and the theme was a Luau. I prepared Kalua Pork with Pineapple barbecue sauce and it was very tasty and pretty easy too. Everyone else brought a side dish and we all had some good food and a great time.
Here are a few photos from the cook...
Wrapped in banana leaves and on the Egg. There is onions, garlic, ginger, salt and pepper under the leaves.
After about 7 hours and resting...
Leaves removed...
Pulled...
plated...
This was about the best roasted pork I have had. I am so excited about using the egg instead of the crock pot this winter. If you haven't tried this recipe before I can safely say it is worth a try.

That really looks great, thank you for posting. Are you going to post the recipe? -
That looks fantastic. Nice job!

Very nice, I made that a couple weeks ago and it was delicious. Your banana wrap looks a lot better than mine did. -RP

That looks good. Not a Ginger person, but will try it.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

That pretty much was the recipe...
put a few pieces of onion, garlic, and ginger on the leaves. Salt and pepper the pork butt and put on the leaves. Then a few more pieces of onion, garlic, and ginger on top. Wrap and tie. I cooked it at 325 for about 7 hours... until it reached 190. Let it rest and pull to serve. Too easy.Large and Small BGE * www.quelfood.com -
I thought I saw some bits of pineapple as well
-
I think that is scored fat cap. I thought it looked like pineapple too, but went back and looked closer. No bark since it was wrapped the whole cook. Looks good!

That looks very tasty. Do you live somewhere tropical? Where do you get banana leaves? I would love to try that, but I live in Missouri, no banana trees here.

What a spread! Looks great. I've made that a couple of times this summer and it was a real hit.
Cobra, most Hispanic markets sell the banana leaves very inexpensively. -
I got my banana leaves at Whole Foods. I got them from the fish department and I had to ask for them as they aren't on display. I live in Kentucky and there isn't a lot of banana trees here either.
The fat cap is scored... there isn't any pineapple... just onions, garlic, ginger, salt, and pepper and pork butt of course. It is truly easy... and the most tender and juicy roast pork I have ever had. The full recipe is in BBQ USA.
I love smoked pork butt, but this was a really nice change of pace. We had leftovers with mushroom risotto and fresh broccoli Tuesday.Large and Small BGE * www.quelfood.com -
Where did you procure the Banana leaves?
