Does the ad list any company name or location? To this day I still have my working PACHINKO that Ed Fisher, BGE founder, also used to import to the USA besides those Kamados!

Hard to tell who had the ad. But not many people remember the "Big Green Egg and Pachinko" store on Buford Highway at Clairmont. Even those that remember the store, don't remember the "Pachinko" portion. I probably was more interested in the pachinko back then than I was in the Big Green Egg.

I remember the Pachinko House very well. I used to drive by it every day to/from work and see these funny looking little bbq grills set out beside the road. I stopped in at lunch one day and talked with Ed for probably a half-hour about Pachinko and the clay grills.

Wished I would have bought one of each then, but money was tight. What a cool success story though.

There are quite a number still around. Most are now showing the orange color underneath. I have a friend up at Lake Hartwell who has one. I replaced his firebox, firering, grate, thermometer and grill. Those were destroyed from years of abuse (burning briquettes inside and other stuff) but the clay shell was still ok. Hinge needed a bit of TLC but it's fine for a low and slow.

Besides, you can buy a brand new one that looks just like that. To me however, it's sort of like buying a replica Model T Ford. You're getting the old technology in a new technology world. I would either want the original or opt for a new vehicle - like the ceramic Big Green Egg with lift-assist hinge and nest with handle. Now if we can just get us a digital dome thermometer. :-)

Wow! Cool ad. Growing up on Long Island, NY, I recall my Dad buying and using for many years, a Kamado, and it was orange - looked very much like the ad. The name of the store was Pachinko Palace.

We also had a Pachinko machine, which was also a lot of fun - in fact it looked just like the machine previously posted.

I think it was called the Pachinko House, or Pachinko Palace, when I was around. There wasn't any such thing as the Big Green Egg at the time, he was just promoting Kamado grills. They were still clay and I think they were either red or light blue (been quite a few years and beers).

My first exposure to the Egg was with a friend and his father who drove us to the Pachinko Palace to get a part for his pachinko machine in the 70's. I was just along for the ride, and was more interested in the Eggs than the games, even at 10-12 years old. And on the way home, driving past Peachtree Dekalb Airport, the Goodyear Blimp was landing so we pulled in and got a close look. It was quite a day.
