Humidity/Mold in Egg solutions

So I use my egg periodically and get the mold pretty bad between cooks. It is pretty humid and wet in Houston. I have started leaving the air vent down at the bottom open once the fire is out. So far so good. Just have to remember to do it the next day. Do nto see any downside. Keeping it closed also kept the fuel wet as well. Anyone else have a better solution?

I had the same problem for awhile, starting using it more and the problem went away....fire it up and use it more often

Do you put a cover over the egg?
-
No cover, Just Houston weather. Egg gets very hot in the sun and then cools at night. Creates moisture inside.

my maine egg isnt used during the week and gets moldy. i use as litle lump in it as possible and almost never fill it. that egg sits in the mud, no stand or nest. other than using it more or putting a heater or lightbulb setup in there i dont see a way around it. i just add lump when i get there and cook with it thoughfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

In the mud? You should get an honorary membership to "Team Hardcore" for that....! I bet that is some damn hard mud in the winter up there.

there is three seasons of mud and one season sitting under a snow bank for that egg   ive watched it cooking in a puddle half way up the bottom vent wondering if it was going to remain vented or get snuffed.
