I have no doubt that BGD is touring the globe, posse in hand, educating the masses on heavy metal precipitation from ground water. Nontheless, I lament the fact that he isn't around as I watch the tree rats fatten up on acorns and nuts under the autumnal skies. It's the perfect season to hire out BGD and his friend Jimmy for a hunting expedition. After harvesting and cleaning, we could fire up the BGE and cook some vittlin stew, while partying with the posse.
After a long, grueling day in the field, I was kinda hoping I could ease the leg cramps by drinking some of his wine and hot - tubbing (tubing?) with his mom, albeit we would have to alternate turns in the tub. In my dreams... I know, I know but a man must aspire to his goals! Although, now thinking back on it, I never saw a picture of his mom...she may have better morning stubble than I.
BGD, let me know if you ever get off the lecture circuit. I miss your posts and best of luck till then.

Why do you need to understand the genetics of moles??? :ermm:  :pinch:
-
In my studies I believe I may have uncovered a way to flip a switch in the DNA of certain talpidae mammals that will encourage a voracious appetite for ants. I can then market the service to various Federal properties as a non-chemical emergency pest control measure.
Hoping to finish up by this afternoon.Dave Montgomery at Wheeling West Virgina -
Actually, more correct terminology would be abated -- but why quibble over such trivial matters?Dave Montgomery at Wheeling West Virgina

baited....the alternate spelling.

how do you propose to control the genetically enhanced population versus the less-voracious natural population? genetically rendered sterility? that has proven inneffective in about 10-15% of the other cases where it was the controlling factor.
i'd say you might have an issue with a small percentage of your modified moles out-competing the natural population, thereby trading one pest (the ants) for another (the super mole).
i have some thoughts on this. email me offline. in addition to genetically-induced sterility, you might want to look into accelerated aging. given the somewhat longer time required for moles to reach sexual maturity as compared to other rodents, you may be able to have them reach mortality age prior to sexual maturity. that could prevent the fertile 15% from reproducing as well. -
