Pit probe problems with cyberq II

I was messing around with my bbq toys and decided to hook up the pit probe to the temp gauge on one of my BGE I set the temp on the cyberq to 325 and the BGE temp gauge showed 400. I went thru charcoal like I had never even put it in there. What went wrong

I would trust the Guru probes over the BGE dome thermometer.

Check the calibration of the dome thermometer and while you are at it you may as well check all the probes on your cyberq. Don't let the cable to probe connection get wet or you may well be replacing probes.

The guru probe should be connected just above the 'ridge' in the dome thermometer.

you say dont let the probe wires get wet when calibrating, does this go for a cook in the rain as well??

Well I did have it attached to the dome temp gauge. I know that gauge is not always dead on. But there was so much difference in temp kinda freaked me out

Electricity and water don't mix.

Probe connections to the unit (any system) or where the lead wire connects to the actual probe are not water proof. The instructions say don't expose those connections to water.

I have many times had just the wires exposed to heavy rain/snow/hail and there has been no problems.

I have connected a q2 pit wire and a Maverick ET-73 pit probe wire to the dome thermometer and all 3 read different.

If you check calibrate the dome thermometer and check the cyberq probes in boiling water and they are correct or close then you will have eliminated some of the possibilities.

As far as the temperature run away I think Steve has hit the nail on the head.

As for the different temperatures with 2 or more thermometers which are in very close proximity on needs to check the calibration.

sorry i didnt read your post right, i see now you have the connection in there, yes i know that would be bad if that got wet, but was wondering just of the cables themselves out in the rain or snow, but you answered the question, thank you.

If it is going to be really wet I look the cables so a natural drip point would be at the bottom of the cable and not on the connection end or plug end.

Snow is less problematic than rain.

Well I think that I'm gonna go and start the process of elimination. Cause I really would like to see just how long of a burn I can get from my new charcoal I sell.
