Are these things waterproof, looking at finally buying one and am wondering if i need to cover it up in the rain?

    I bought a cheap clear plastic shoe box size rubbermaid container at Home Depot for $0.99. I drilled a small hole up under one of the molded in hand grips for the cords to fit through. Because the hole is on the underside of the grip, water can't get in. I can leave it out in a downpour without a drop of water touching the controller.

    Yes I believe they are waterproof but for the fun of it I put a plastic sandwich bag over mine if it starts to rain and can secure it with an rubber band. I do the same with the fan, just making sure I don't obstruct the flow of air. I cut one side of the bag open so it is more like a rain hood on the fan.

    I use a quart Zip Lock Freezer bag on the controller, you can zip most of the opening and don't have to fumble with rubber bands or ties. As far as the fan, I turn it so the flat side that has the BBQ Guru logo is facing up. The motor is protected that way and it has never been an issue for me. I have also seen on this forum, sorry, don't remember who, placing a paper cup over the fan. They cut a hole in the bottom that they placed the fan nozzle through before inserting into the adapter. The cup protected the fan but did not constrict the flow of air into the fan. I am going to do that next time it rains and see how that works. Pretty much the DigiQ DX is weather resistant and the stoker is not, either way, protect your investment. Better to be safe.

    The are not waterproof. They are advertised as water resistant.

    Definitely not waterPROOF. They are advertised as water resistant. That said, I did leave a ProCom4 out in a steady rain for about 18 hours and the thing survived!

    The DigiQDX is water resistent and the fan is virtually impervious to the rain or snow.
    Keeping the plugs dry on the Digi is the biggest concern.
