Ribs and alligator. Not bad so far.

Someone please tell me this was the best episode thus far. I know I know, better than the first few isn't saying much. :(
  • You know. It is definitely made for TV, but there are a few teams that compete at a high level and even in comments you can pick up some tidbits.

I finally learned what an ABT is .
  • don't you have some jambalaya to make?

My expectations may have been too high from the start. I'd just much rather watch some of the BBQ challenge episodes I've seen over the years on the FN.

I'm really new to BBQ, but I've not picked up much that I didn't already read on this or other forums, youtube, books, and internet. But again, I spend too much time doing those things.

Just think the redundant format/soap angles are real lame.
  • I took it off the auto-record on the DVR. It's too contrived, too phony, too put-on. It's barely about BBQ at all, really.
  • Aw, it's not any worse than the other made for TV cooking shows. You have to like it over the Neeleys :-)
  • Your right. It's not any worse than any other made for tv shows going on right now. They are producing whats selling, and right now unfortunately it's stuff like this. I don't think it's near as bad as others think it is. I watch it every week and enjoy the crazy side dishes that they are spinning out. To me the one positive side is, your seeing new teams every week. Some big guns and some shade tree teams.
  • As long as the teams are not salivating over "brown sugar" and kissing every other minute im fine with it . I cant stand the Neeley's . I bet she takes a cane rod to Mr Neeley's backside as soon as the tiny red light goes off. How fake can it be?
  • That's true, but like saying you're the tallest man in Oz. Why should BBQPM be just another contrived cooking show?

I thought tonight's show was by far the best, they didn't eliminate anyone for the gator. -RP

But what if Trigg's gator was the loser.... and what if the producers didn't want him kicked off the show early... and what if (at the last minute) they changed the rules so nobody was eliminated for that Challenge Round.

  • Exactly. No fixed, sensible rules, no standards and no focus on the culture, methods and other aspects of barbecue. The first season had its "made for TV" moments, but this is 99% TV pap and 1% actual barbecue.

Would've been a sin to send those ribs home I guess for the gator, right? I thought his gator looked the worst of them.

Agreed, but it still was the best so far considering the shiddy format. -RP

Yes it was the best. Ironically, it was the first one of the shows they taped. Which makes the decision to change the rules regarding the Challenge even harder to swallow.

Even though Trigg is a legend.... BigMista, DivaQ and Big Poppa are all on another forum I belong to, so most of us were pulling for them. I tried to judge at Craig Colorado on August 28th partially because Trigg was in the house, but several others I know were competing there too. The judges list filled up to fast for me to get on. He took Grand Champion

  • i concur and did the same thing with my DVR.... it seems like a MTV production..rr
  • I love how Alligator was too crazy to vote anyone off, but rattlesnake, that was easy and very common.

I don't know about you guys, but I have seen Alligator on a menu much more than snake, and I live in rattlesnake USA.
