Anyone keep a fire going through 2 meals?

So I was wondering. Does anyone out there have a fire going in their egg at lunch and then just barely shut it down so that it is still smoldering while they wait for dinner? I thought about that today. My lunch and dinner cooks are usually only 5 hours apart. I thought maybe I could set the vent and daisy so it is chilling at like 150*-200* and then crank her up when I am ready for dinner. I would probably only do this when I was home.

I have done that in the past. You just have to make sure you have enough lump to get you through.Dave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

sounds like it may work but you would be wasting lump. i thought about it to but i thought it wasted to much lump keeping it going for 5 or 6hrs with nothing on it, you should throw some ribs on or cook something during that time and then you could eat that the next day.

Didn't seem to use too much lump. It was just crusing along real slow.Dave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

I suppose you could do that easily. Just keep the daisy wheel petals open half way and close the bottom so it is open about the width of a nickel.

Oh hell no! Stand outside in this Southeast Texas heat twice? Are you nuts?

El Dirty,
If your gaskets are gone just shut it down. Open it up and put some air to it with a fan at dinner time.

I agree with that. I visited Houston once...enough for me. :PDave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

Yeah, I actually moved from Livermore to Houston (not because I wanted to) and prior to that five years at Camp Pendleton in So Cal so, I know what you are taking about.

I was born and raised in San Jose. I lived in Dothan Alabama (actually Ozark) for several years. Two of my kids live in Alabama now.Dave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney
