Just bought the CI grid last night. My wife made the mistake of not accompanying me into the hardware store to buy a bag of lump. ;-)
(BTW, I've noticed a trend of the egg stores that have stopped carrying BGE lump and replacing it with Royal Oak and Cowboy. Love the trend as its saving me $$$ and I don't notice any difference in the quality. I live in Chicago and I've seen two Egg stores near me doing this.)
Anyway . . . made a ribeye and the CI grid delivered. Awesome sear marks and flavor! My question is this, is there anything that the CI ruins and that you should use the normal grid instead?

The CI is my go to grill for direct. I LOVE my grill. I even put it down on firering, and the set my griddle on top when blackening. Cant imagine being without one, or why I waited so long to finally get one!!!!
For indirect, still using stock grill, but no reason CI wouldnt work for that to my knowledge.
Congrats!

What is a "CI" grid?
EDIT: ahhhh, cast iron... -
Cast iron.
I have a small CI that I place on my spider in my large Egg mostly for steaks. I love it. -
I got my CI for my small in June and I use it all the time on my small and in the large with the spider. I freaking love it. I put grillmarks on things that do not even need it!

At the Indy eggfest, Chef JJ said that. Ci grill should be used for direct cooking and the regular grate for indirect cooking due to temp holding differences. He also suggested using the cast iron grate on top of the enamel at 90 degrees to reduce temps as needed.
