How long to heat a pizza stone?

How long does it take for a stone to reach temp, using a large bge and platesetter, with about a 3/4" gap between stone and setter? My last two attempts lead me to think it's longer than the 20-30 minutes I've been waiting (at 450 or so)

If you want a crispy pizza using the stone get dome temp up to 500 to 550 the stone will not take long at all to heat up

One night with nothing better to do I decided to find out for myself how long it takes... I had finished cooking all the meat and veggies for the pizza (indirect) so I dropped the pizza stone on and ran the temp up to 500 at dome... using my a infrared thermometer to read through the open Egg top the temp of the pizza store - I found it took almost 45 minutes for it to come to 475 and stabilize ... what was interesting was the plate setter was over 650 while the air gap using Egg feet made almost a 200 degree difference...Kent Madison MS

I'm glad to see someone finally document the difference in the temp using even a small air gap...this is the exact reason you shouldn't place your stone directly on the PS...to maintain a 500° dome there is some "serious" heat being generated down in that firebox..
