Wine cork spacer for Tru-tel

I bought a Tru-Tel with the 5" probe. I followed the suggestion to make a spacer from a wine cork so that only 4" of the probe goes into the dome. (same as BGE).
Will it read the same temp as the BGE? What if I used a 2" spacer (leaving 3" in the dome)?

A related question. I now have half a bottle of wine with no cork... Wait.. I think I've got an answer to that. :)

The stem has a small line an inch or two from the end. The stem must protrude into the dome far enough so that you can see the line. It will then read correctly. Enjoy the wine!!
