Finally got around to trying to cook a pork butt on the "new" med today. Been doing ribs, lots of meatloaf, sausage, never was brave enough to try for pulled pork. Partly because of the warehouse 2 pack packaging of butts. Just too much meat for the two of us, and wouldn't fit on the med anyway (I don't think-may be wrong). Local butcher had 5#-6# butts right next to the ground chuck I was buying to make meatloaf the night before. Not cheap, but perfect size for us.
So, following Third Eye's pulled pork me6thod, on went a 5 lb'er this morning.
Mid Cook
Ready to pull
pulled (nearly)
Best thing I've cooked on the EGG, or the wsm for that matter, and I thought I got to be pretty decent on ribs... Neighbor got some goodies, she and my wife agreed it was the best effort so far. For my wife to have said that is very unusual :pinch:
Anyway, I finally feel like I'm making some progress in my egging

Morning Cruzr:
Mighty tasty looking pulled pork!!!!
You can easily put two butts on a medium...I've done as many as three 8#'ers at a time when I had my medium. As for making more than you can eat at one time...think foodsaver! Packaged, then in the freezer...when you want to eat it, just drop the bag in boiling water for 15 to 20 minutes...almost as good as fresh.
Enjoy the EGG!Have a GREAT day!

looks great....I use a NC vinegar sauce for my pulled pork. :woohoo:
-
Cruzr, your pulled pork looks great with perfect bark. Don't you wish you had fixed a 7 or 8 pounder in retrospect? I bet your neighbor wished you had.
-
Good for you. Keep it up. The egg is very forgiving, especially with boston butts.

Yeah, a foodsaver's definitely in the picture. Ain't any of this batch gonna make it in a bag tho...
-
Thank you. I might play with that sauce for tomorrow's dinner, the pork finished too late for tonight. Didn't feel like getting up early enough to get it going today. :pinch:
-
I thought that exactly, after it was done. I wondered about sugaring it up for more bark ( I love it), but thought I'd better follow the program for now. Gotta strong feeling there might be more PP in my immediate future.

Yeah, I was surprised how easy it really was. Biggest trick for me was to just leave it alone. :pinch: :pinch: I dinked around w temp a little, but they were solid at 235* until last hour or so, when it inched up to 260 or so, which was fine. Not much of a plateau that way...

Forgot to say, I followed your rib method for my birthday cook a couple weeks ago. Thanks

Don't under estimate your med I also have done 3 8#ers on mine Sunday all the family was here and I did 5.5 racks of loin back ribs took them off at 6:00pm and put a 8.5# brisket on for an overniter for Sunday

Nice job!! BTW, you can fit 2 butts easily on the MBGE
-
Way to go dude
-
It looked like a couple would fit on the rack. I got three BB racks in there without a rack 2 weeks ago, just had to flip em around a little bit. 2 butts will definitely call for a foodsaver...or more neighbors :woohoo: :silly:

Very good looking pork. I like the way you have supported the temp probe.Dave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

Double thankyew I was afeered I'd take some heat (sorry) for the clothespins, but that was all I could come up with at the time. I just wanted to get the probe out of most of the heat to the dome. It did work, tho'.
Now if I was Third Eye, you can bet there would be something snappier. :cheer:
