Busted my egg!!!
1/2 Chicken
Posts: 58
While putting my boat in the garage I tipped my large egg in it's nest into the wall. I managed to get to it and carefully lowered it and set just the egg on the floor... disaster averted... or so I thought. I recruited the help of my brother to get it back in it's nest. I've moved my egg many times by picking it up by the clam shell bracket so figured we'd do the same here. Lifted the whole thing and when it was a foot or so off the cement drive the bottom 1/2 let loose.... SMASH!!! Let me tell you all... that's not a good sound and feeling. Sooooo... Whats a new bottom and fire bowl cost??? I'm assuming there is no warentee clame to be made here??? Do I go through my dealer on this??? I'm feeling a little sick today :(

You lifted your egg by the hinge/handle? Yea, no warranty claim there.
Best bet is to call your local dealer for a price and try to piggyback on a normal shipment to save on the shipping costs (unless he stocks the parts you need). -
OHHH that is a sick sound and feeling I am sure :( but you will be back cooking good as new with new parts. sorry about your day...

OMG....so sorry dude. I hope that the cost is minimal.

oh darlin bummer, oh yes as you know now never ever lift an egg by the hinge assembly! oh man that is the pits! no warranty on that for sure but like the other guy said definetly try to get a new one shipped with an order your retailer is making to save some money.

I busted the bottom of my egg 2 weeks after I had it. I replaced the bottom piece for about $300 if I remember correctly. I didn't have to get a new fire ring or box...thank the lord. Sorry to hear about yours. I know that feeling all to well unfortunately.
-
Well at least your new replacement will have a lifetime warranty now, as long as you don't drop it again.
-
Well at least now I have a ball park of what I'm getting into... and that's about what I figured. I bought this egg when the economy and my business was WAY better. $300 will sting a bit but it's better then turning whats left of it into a planter as was suggested by my sister-in-law after we busted it.

For a new base and fire box. Though I may get the fire box under warentee... it was already broken due to regular use.
-
Sad to hear your bad news. Hopefully you will get the warranty on you fire box because it was already in bad shape. Post more often if you can. Tim

Ahhhhh I bet that was sickening! :pinch: Sorry fer the loss and hope you are back on your feet cooking again soon! :blink:Hunting-Fishing-Cookin' on my EGG! Nothing else compares!

Wow, since a whole brand new large is only $649, I'd try another dealer.

I broke one this winter and just JB weleded it back together and havent got a chance to fire it up and try it. It actually didnt fit to bad considering it was atleast 20 pieces. A little sanding and grinding was necessary. The top did not break only the bottom. I need to glue the new gasket on and put the vent back on and then I am going to try to fire it up! I have been to busy to try to finish it up. I figure I will fire it up low and slow first to see what happens.
-
I was about to pitch the whole thing last night but after seeing what it will cost to replace I thought... maybe I can JB weld it. My guess is it wont hold up worth a darn but it might be worth a shot... at least until my new base comes in. I'd bet mine is in about 20 pieces as well. That'll take a lot of JB weld!

Let us know how it holds up. Tim
