Well guys and gals its been almost a month and a half, but today I finally got my new XL BGE. Thank goodness they set it up for me because this thing is massive. Its like when you go to Best Buy to get a big screen TV. Doesn't look that big in the store next to all the other huge tvs, but when you get it home, sweet lordy. Without further adieu may I present the before and after pics of my equipment.
The Before, I was such an innocent little thing in this pic.
The After, a man and his Pig Furnace.
Now that I have my XL BGE I know I did the right thing by being patient and waiting for the newly re-designed one to be ready. When you've spent this much on a grill you might as well get their latest and greatest offering.
The only questions I have now are, "What should I cook first?" and "Why the heck didn't I take the rest of the day off to spend some quality time with my new baby?".
We may never know the answers.

Congrats They say breat it in by a low cook initially like ribs
-
congrats!!!! it's a thing of beauty :woohoo:

Wow, if this was out last year I think I would have had a hard time choosing between a large an XL. That is just mammoth looking. I wonder since the lid is bigger if the ceramic grill store will build any new accessories?
-
Now, that's a picture of a proud Papa. Low temp cooks, half dozen or so to seat the gasket. Spatchcock is a popular choice.
-
I've been in contact with the ceramic grillstore about a flip ring for the new XL BGE. According to them its in the works. As soon as its out I'm buying one for sure.
-
Congrats now get cooking and take pics. -RP

Congrats Mudpig. And it matches your barn!
I say load that thing up with some slow cooking suff. How bout some ribs and a fattie? The fattie would make for a great breakfast, and they are great sliced and eaten cold believe it or not. -
Just wanted to add--the food is going to amaze you.
-
It is pretty funny how my big green shed and my big green egg look perfect together. Nice addition to the yard.
-
Not to worry, I'll be taking plenty of pics. I think my first order of business will be Ribs.
-

Enjoy your egg. Many good cooks will be in your future.

Julie,
I want it cause my XL is shorter than me. You just never know when you might have to cook a large meal

Congrats , we've had ours since Nov. 09 and haven't fired the gasser since , yo going to love it.

Mud Pig, awesome "pig furnace". I love my XLG. My first cook was the Elder Ward pulled pork on the Naked Whiz web site. http://www.nakedwhiz.com/elder.htm
It came out perfect and left me with some confidence that I could successfully do a lo and slo. It was my first 'real' BBQ.
Love the other egg names as well! -
I'm bettin that XL will not be allowed to cool down for at least a week. Start cookin and enjoy. It's gonna be a heap a lot more fun than the little kettle pictured. Lookin foreward to the pics. Love your handle as well. I'm thinkin pig furnace will probably be a dominate name for the XL. Congrats.

cool pig furnace :woohoo:

I've had my XL bge for about a year and I love it. You did the right thing getting the XL. Happy egging, Pilcher Man.
-
Whew, I'm so glad for you!! I can't wait to watch you grow!!
I'd suggest a spatchcocked chicken or two. Butternut squash and you HAVE to try baked taters. I waited over 2 years for these. Don't do that, they really rock!
Enjoy!!Molly
