Burned up the gasket on my mini doing pizzas last week. The store I work at has never managed to get the nomex for the mini and I didnt feel like trimming a large one, so I decided to try out a Rutland. I got the 5/16 and it is perfect. Just got it glued down. I'll probably give it a try wednesday. If it all works out well I'll be installing the 5/8 I got on my large is a couple weeks.

where does a person get nomex or rutland at, can you get it online?

The Nomex comes from Big Green Egg, you can get it from a dealer or order it online. The Rutland can be found at some hardware stores, fireplace stores, or online. I got my Rutland's from Amazon.com, with shipping the price was the same as retail at a local hardware store, but the owner of the local store was a jerk.

I think RRP sells rutland too. I just put on my rutland and had my first cook this weekend. Had a 10# brisket then did ribs at the same time. It was rock solid. Need to do a high heat cook to see if it works better then my last nomex gasket.

I believe I read in one of the previous threads on this subject that the Rutland gasket is not safe for food applications. Thoughts on this?

I installed the Rutland kit from RRP a few cooks ago and never looked back.

I have done some low and slows with no smoke leak, some high temp steaks with no charred gasket also a pizza and the gasket still looks great.

The instructions are perfect and easy to follow.

Highly recommend doing this gasket

Just put on my first Rutland.
