Letter Carriers across the country will be collecting food donations for the annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive across America this Saturday, May 8, and all food collected in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the nation's largest one-day food drive, will go to a local food bank, which will make distribution to area families in need.
Customers who wish to donate nonperishable food items can do so by filling a plastic bag with food items and setting it by their mailbox this Saturday for collection.
Food items can include dried, canned and packaged products, and items most needed by food banks are canned meats, soup, fruits, and vegetables, along with packaged nonperishables such as pasta, cereal, powdered milk, and vegetables. It is also requested that if you choose to donate, please do not include items that have exceeded their expiration date, or items in glass containers.
This is the 18th year of the annual postal food drive, and nearly a billion pounds of food have been collected by letter carriers and Post Offices over the years.
