Possible New Royal Oak Variation?

So while I was at my local Wegmans, I saw a couple pallets of this Royal Oak Lump out front. It didn't look like the red bags you guys have, and there is french writing on the bottom in the red band. I checked the Whiz charcoal DB and didn't see any reference to this type of lump. Has anyone else seen this type before?

The red bags in your pic are briquets; you want to be using the "100% natural charcoal." I am not sure what the "lump charcoal" in the blue bags are.

Yeah, that's the stuff they sell here in Canada. That's my primary lump for the egg. Great stuff. $15 for the big bag (20lbs).

as others said - it's the Canadian version - about 3 years ago my dealer shanghaied a load of 20 pounders in transit from GA to Canada!

I also have a bag in the garage right now. Have you tried the Maple Leaf brand? It's usually a bit more, but I find the lumps are a little more evenly sized.

Yeah, I sometimes buy the Maple Leaf from Rona. I'd say it's probably a better quality bag of lump overall, but pretty close to RO. I've never found rocks in a bag of ML lump. :laugh:

That's the big question. From memory, nothing on the bag tells you where it's from or what kind of wood it is (I will double check this when I get home though). But it is all real tree cuttings, no wood building scraps. Burns nicely and smells good. I think it's the same regular RO as in the U.S. but just packaged differently for Canadian customers.

The 10lb bags in the photo were selling for $5.99. Wonder if it is better to get that stuff, or travel to Wal-Mart for the red bag?
