Pros and cons of either Royal Oak or Cowboy Lump? See that they are way less expensive and going to try one and wanted to know which one to try?

I have used both and perfer Royal Oak from the US over Cowboy. RO is said to make the egg lump.Dave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

I have Royal oak that I got at wally world. 10lbs for under $7. I found at my local True Value hardware store 20lbs. of Cowboy lump for $14. I have heard that the Cowboy burns hotter and faster. Some eggheads use the Royal Oak for the longer slower burns while using the Cowboy for steaks and burgers. Hope this helps.

That has been my experience as well. Cowboy gets hot..fast..but seems to burn up quicker. RO is likely the better overall value if price is equal.
-
does RO burn the same as EGG Lump?
-
Same stuff. RO packages it and labels it for BGE.
-
So try them both and you decide.

I've tried both and my preference is Royal Oak

royal oak is better but you have to pay attention when buying it. they package their lump and briquettes in similar packaging, easy to pick up a wrong bag, and the have US and south american versions in similar bags. heres some from argentina, you dont want that

well from the reviews i have seen i will go get the RO!

I know some people don't like Cowboy lump but last weekend it held 225 for 22 1/2 hours and then I opened it up and it held 350 for two more hours. That's long enough for me.
I get it a Lowes for $6.99 for 8lbs +. -
price here isn't equal. cowboy goes about 50 cents a pound, R/O $1 a pound.
both are good for lo-and-slo or hot and fast, but yeah, R/O is usually denser and cowboy is generally lighter. -
I use them both and they both do a great job. I guess if you want to get down to measuring and weighing ash one might beat the other out. Dont know. Just get a bag of each and try.

ya, why not
