OT - Chicago "Musts"?

heading out this evening for Chicago for the week. Aside from deep dish which I'v already had any good suggestions on don't miss foods or places to eat? I'm at the downtown Hyatt so I'll be in the thick of things. Pretty sure I'll drop in to Rick Bayless' place. Always like the way his stuff looks on TV.

    Oh yeah, Riva (the upstairs, never been to the downstairs part) is top-notch with a great view. I heartily second this.

    As for the deep-dish, I'd try Giordano's.

    Not sure if you'll get this, having already departed, but:

    Find a roadside Italian Beef joint, and get the combo, which is an italian beef sandwich, with a link of italian sausage included.

    Chicago-style dog: again...pick a spot, any spot. There's a place called Hot Dougs that, on certain days of the week, serves duck-fat fries.

    I second the recommendation on Giordano's for the deep dish. Pizzaria Uno is also good. Some swear by Gino's or Lou Malnati's, but I don't like the crust at either...but any of these are Chicago institutions. Unfortunately, pretty much any of these places is also a tourist hot-spot...but that's what you get with the big Chicago-style pizza joints.

    You've already mentioned Bayless's place, which would be at the top of my list. We've eaten at Topolo (his high-end restaurant) and most recently at Xoco (the street food joint). Both are out of this world. Unless you get reservations to Topolo, be prepared for a wait at any of his restaurants, unless you pick an off-time to go. We ate at Xoco for lunch on the Saturday of the St. Patrick's parade (got in line just as the parade was beginning), and waited 45 mins. The Hyatt is on the north side of the loop, so it's probably only a 6 or 8 block walk from Clark and Illinois, where Bayless's place is.

    Find a Nuts On Clark store and get popcorn...the caramel corn is out of this world.
