Lunch was little fish- smelt. We pronounce "schmelt".
This is a Wisconsin treat when the run is on (spawning), traditionally fried and served with bread, coleslaw, lemon wedge and beer. I had beer.
Here are a few pic's.
I like a light coating.
Into the Fry Daddy, just takes a couple of minutes.
Fried in stages. Ate almost a pound, so light and sweet. Really good, some of the best ever.
For dinner I fired up the mini and grilled big fish- tuna steak, seasoned lightly with Tsunami Spin and dill. Then finished with a ginger glaze. 'Twas deeeelish next to rice and a garden salad and Labatts beer.

Darn! Never thought of frying up the bait before! Makes getting skunked a little easier to swallow, I guess. :silly:
Those do look really good, My Friend!
Mike -
Alton Brown cooked this on Good Eats one night, outside on a grill in a frying pan.

We joke about that all the time, chub minnows about the same size. I'm a poor fisherman that doesn't waste the bait. :silly:

Well I do like fish. Thanks.
Remember the Charlie Tuna adds? He WANTED to be caught and eaten. (Sorry Charlie) Stuff like that stays in the brain of a poor fisherman like meself. They say fish is brain food. So I eat.

Now you’re talking fish!!
Both ends of that spectrum sound and look absolutely delicious!
Is the “smelt run" on in you neck of the woods?
I would have to guess yes....But we're early, aren't we? -
Look like little fried sardines - we ate those in Spain with my wife's. Brings back good memories for me - Man those look good!!

Hey Q,
Never had "schmelt" but the wife has said I "schmelt" after a day of yard work.
They look good, tasting "sweet" is intriguing. It doesn't get better than fried fish and cole slaw unless you chase it with a nice hunk o'fish like tuna.
Lookin' good!
