Getting Egg Into Table

Question for all you egg table builders. How did you get your egg into the table? Did you simply lower it in after the table was done or did you build a "back door" and slide it in?

I'm just wondering how I should approach this with my large egg when I get to building the table. I'm thinking a back door is the smartest option in case it needs to come out again. I like the way this one by Serial Griller was done.

I managed to get my XL into the table after I built it. I had to totally take it apart to do so, but I was able to do it by myself. I'd recommend getting help though.

I really want to avoid taking apart my egg. I'll take out all the parts inside but don't want to have to unbolt anything. :laugh:

Yours is a nice table. Must have been tough getting it in there, even stripped down. Did you use straps and lower it in?

+1 on the Potlifter if yours is a Large or below. An XL exceeds the lifting capacity.

you can stack a couple of ice blocks/bags in the place where you intend to lower the egg.... place the elevated egg on the ice.... as it melts... the egg will slowly lower into position.... this is how they used to lower locomotive engines onto the wheels prior to high capacity cranes.... a buddy of mine used the ice block technique to lower a hot tub into a hole on his deck...

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think I'll try the Potlifter. The have them at our local Lee Valley Tools stocks them.

I like the idea of an open front table with wood decking to each side and the back. I get my large egg in and out by complete disassembly, and I do it twice a year with two large eggs. Winter quarters and then back out on the patio in spring.

With a little help of my 5'1" wife, I just muscled up and lowered the bottom piece of the Lrg. egg myself into position.

I hope I never have to move it again.
