I would spatchcock it and do high indirect 350-375F hour, hour 15 minutes. Cook to temp.

If you have the time........I did a whole chicken with indirect heat, place setter legs up & a drip pan. Temp was 250 - 275 for 3 hours. I threw 4 -5 hunks of hickory and a couple hunks of mesquite in with the lump. Seasoned with granulated garlic and season all inside and out.

Hey Dan, I think the gerenral consensus is to cook to internal meat temp, rather than a certain time/temp.
With a whole chicken the white meat will be done before the dark, so measure the dark for doneness. 180 is the reccomendation but some may argue to pull sooner.
Good Luck! -
I'd pull that chicken at 165 degrees.

I don't want to contradict, but if you pull the chicken when the thighs are 165, the breast meat may not be done. If you get the breast meat up to 160, your thighs will be in the 180 neighborhood.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I pull when the breast is at 165 degrees not the thigh.

I cook mine at about 400* till the breast is 165. Takes about an hour for me.
