Hot and Cold Now At The Coop

The weather has been unusually cold here in 'shorts 'n T-shirt Land' this year. So cold, in fact, that the staff petitioned to get some heat in the Coop. So I got 'em a water heater. Took me half a day to install it but it's in and the staff is happy.

It has a switch that allows me to turn it completely off and a dial that allows me to adjust the temperature up to 140° or I can set it to a freeze protection setting and it will keep the water just warm enough to keep from freezing.

It's nice to have hot 'n cold.

The Hooter's CEO was on Boss Under Cover a few days ago and got some really good advertising mileage from the show. I have a feeling they are no longer for sale.

Sure would be nice to add some "Orange Hooters Girls" to my batch of "Green Pleasure Goddesses" here at the Chicken Ranch. But alas, we charge very little for our services and they are accustomed to making much more.

If I'm ever, I mean WHEN, I'm in the 'doghouse' I'd rather it be comfortable. And considering that I've got three Eggs to heat it up and now enough hot water to bathe in, a full-size refrigerator loaded with food and beverage, a draft beer machine, a margarita machinePlus a hot tub twenty feet away, and a tall privacy fence and a cemetery across the fence assures me that I am indeed alone and comfortable in my little world until I'm able to return to the big house.

Thanks, but the homeowners association may have a wee bit of a problem with it since it goes a couple of steps above just being a gazebo. But it is invisible to all except from the air.

Oh yea, there may be a couple of code violations too if they look hard enough.

But they would have to admit that it is one cool outdoor kitchen.

They sell different versions at Lowe's and Home Depot but I found this one for $149 and free shipping on-line at:

I needed the smallest one I could get and this is it. I actually bought it for our kitchen but it was about 1" too large for there so I went to Plan B rather than incur almost $50 in shipping and restocking fees.

They also make a tankless style that is smaller but requires 220v. It's considerably more expensive and requires licensed people to install. I had already wired for a 120v one when I built the Coop.

Plus I needed the on/off switch to be easily accessible, which it is on this model.

This one has a 'freeze' position on the temperature dial that will keep the water just warm enough to keep from freezing in very cold weather. That's a plus for the Coop which can get awfully cold. I think I got my money's worth.

Ha... Chicago wouldn't have let me build the Coop in the first place, much less install three fire-breathing, 1000° cookers in it. But hey... this is Texas where you do what you're man enough or crazy enough to do. Where do you think the phrase "Hey guys, watch this" was first heard just before some drunk did something totally stupid? LOL

So far I've cooked probably close to 1,000 meals in the Coop, held one hum-dinger of a Coop Party and not a single burn in the wood floor. Plus, the Coop took almost six hours of 125 mph winds from Hurricane Ike and the only damage was a slightly bent Chicken weathervane. It might not meet all the codes but it is certainly solidly built.

I suppose when I sell this place I'll have to take the whole thing down. Meanwhile, I'll enjoy the heck out of it until then or when I'm heard to say "Hey guys, watch this."
