using egg as a foundry

has anyone tried to use their egg as a metal (aluminum) melting foundry? Will it hold up to high cycles?

ive melted lead for fishing weights, the egg climbs up to 900 dome fairly quick but then will go up to around 1200 dome with some time. higher than that i think you would need to force air into the lower vent. one thing to watch out for is thermal expansion in the bands, sustained high temps and they loosen enough that the dome will fall out when opening it. its hotter close to the lump but not sure how hot it is there

According to Mr Google the melting point of lead is 620
F and aluminum 1220F apprx. Why would you eggpose your meal ticket to the risk of aluminum high temp damage???

your egg sees 1200 all the time. the lump is 1200, whether the dome says 250 or 800.

if the crucible is down in the lump, and he's roaring at 1200, it could work.

i'd remove the thermometer (no need for it), and go dome open as well as feed air in from below.

might want to take the dome completely off the bands, it slips all over the place at those temps
