charcoal issue

What size Egg? What do you consider a full load of lump? Full fire box or to the top of the fire ring? What kind of lump? My large will go about 30 hours on a full load of RO.

 
Kind of surprising a large loaded to the top of the fire ring would run out of lump in that amount of time with that temperature.

Royal Oak, Cowboy will both burn more than 24 hours at 250° dome.

You were using lump and not charcoal...

I did two butts on New Years Eve.......filled the lump to the top of the fire ring and lit it......let it get steady at 250 dome(about 40 minutes)....then went back to the neighbors party. About an hour and twenty minutes later I came back and put the butts on.....

Total time so far: 2 hours

The largest butt took right at 20 hours.....and it was the last to come off. Then, I actually left the Egg going for another hour or so to make sure I wouldn't need it again, then I shut it down. After it cooled, the first thing I wanted to know was how much "fuel" was left(I had started to worry when that butt was approaching 20 hours).........

HOWEVER, when I took the platesetter out, I was amazed. I had at least 30% of my lump left....

Keep in mind too, this was after 23 HOURS.

So, I don't know what to tell you honestly......if you are calibrated and the lump was really loaded to the top of the fire RING, not the fire BOX......then I can only assume that you had a crappy bag of lump.

After reading all the replies, I must concur, Bunk Lump.

Yeah, it's hard to believe that lump is going to burn 3 times as fast due to a bad bag. I've never ever tested a lump charcoal that burned 3 times as fast as Royal Oak/Nature Glo, so it's just hard to believe that they could come up with a batch that burns 3 times as fast.
