Anyone have any input on the xl cast iron grid? How do you keep it from tipping when using the placesetter? Does anyone make a one piece grid? I just get tired of changing grids all the time and have storage issues.
Thanks in advance.

I didn't have any issues with it tipping but didn't use it with a platesetter. I think I used it twice on the XL on top of the fire ring for searing. I actually ground it down on the OD in a couple places after Mike in Abita had an issue of it expanding and cracking his base. Since acquiring a Small and Mini, I do all my sears on the mini so I cut it up and use it on my mini.

With the 3 legs of the placesetter and the grid split in the middle, you can only get one side of the grid supported at a time.

I only used the half moon CI grid for searing so didn't use it with a platesetter. Without doing some sort of creative setup, I don't think it will stay on the platesetter.

Yes, that is the problem.

I only use the two piece CI grid when cooking direct. When using the PS I use the standard one piece grid. I haven't found a way to use the two piece CI with the PS and not sure it matters since it's indirect. Yes I do have to find a place store the CI when using the standard grid.

If you really want to use the cast iron grids and the plate setter together, just put the standard grid on the plate setter and lay the cast iron ones on top
