Wife yelling at me -grilling after major surgery

I can't understand why my wife is yelling at me for going out on the deck two days after a major hernia surgery to grill on my new egg I got for Christmas. I know it is 30 deg. and I have on no shoes and am in my pj's, but there's this egg out there begging for some food and I need to get my system going again by walking after surgery! Well, the burgers that night were perfect. I am four days out from surgery, still hurting some but trying out my first brisket. Marinated it for 24 hours. Just getting ready to put on. It is only a pound and a half. Small one to try out then maybe larger later on. Egg is 250. Getting ready to put the hickory on the fire and add the brisket.

willrev,
Hope it isn't a big brisket. Wouldn't want to see ya pop a stitch.

Sounds to me like you have your recovery on the right track. Plus you are getting upper body exercising lifting and closing the dome.

Be Careful and happy egging. Tim

Luckily they did not use stitches. Just the steri-tape. I think tape expands, right?

well if she had stared up the egg like she was supposed to you would not have to be out there    and why is she upset about no shoes ??? it's 30 degrees and it's not like your standing in a foot of snow

Now if you wanted to do something foolish like take out the trash or something, I could understand. But cooking on the BGE? Makes no sense at all for her to be yelling. Give her a while. After 10 years, I'm sure my wife would be yelling if I wouldn't get up after major surgery to cook on my Egg.

Well, I can't pick up the baby or anything over 10 pounds. She did go out and open the lid for me and stick in the electric starter. She did calm down once she ate a burger from the Egg. I think she was worried I might hurt myself. I just had to get my digestion going again after that anesthesia. It worked!

I know you're excited about your new egg but you should really rest up, you don't want to have a setback. There will be plenty of days ahead to cook. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Dude, you are the man! I would probably be in bed milking it for all I could. It would get me out of having to watch the kids. Then again, my wife's idea of a home cooked meal is when she puts lean cusine in the microwave at home. I would have to get up if I wanted to be fed.
Good luck to you, and I hope for your sake the steri strips do stretch. -
You could very well have deep sutures beneath the skin surface and the steri-strips. Be careful.

Listen to eenie meenie she knows.

Anne - we may have to discuss this. You're starting to think like a wife and mother not an 'Egger'. :-)

It sounds like your surgery and recovery are going well! Good job.
I always feel like I have to find out what overdoing it is. -
The post surgery pain is improving. I am doing much better. The first day after was really tough. Sitting for so long is difficult when you are used to being active. I just hope I didn't get the hernia by hoisting the egg up three steps into the house on Christmas day. I'll never know. But we don't eat much processed food. I stick to meat and veggies mostly. I just could not resist posting about it.

I love the post. Great story.
I once went out on a first date after having surgery on my back. Bad move.
When the stiches ripped out it wasn't so much painful as embarrassing to have to explain the expanding red spot on my shirt. I think she was kind of grossed out because she did not want to go on a second date. She missed out because you can never tell what kind of idiotic thing I will do next. :woohoo: :woohoo: -
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Happy healing.

Well, everybody, the 1.5 pound brisket was great. I cooked on the large egg at 240 deg. for an hour and a half after an overnight marinade from an egghead recipe. Did it in the V rack with hickory smoke chips. I am getting better at regulating the temp on the egg. My wife and daughter loved it. They don't like spicy or peppery BBQ. It was pink in the middle on the big end and a little pink on the small end but done perfectly. Thermometer read 145 after I pulled it. Sliced with the electric knife. You guys have a good night. Maybe we could do some earthquake relief and take a plane full of eggs to Haiti and provide food. Disaster relief via the egg. Might be fun hard work.
