Dinner Suggestions for 70th Bday
Smokin' Padre
Posts: 85
We just learned that my parents are coming to visit us on the same weekend as my dad's 70th birthday. Since I learned to love BBQ from him, I'd like to cook him and ten adult guests something special on the large BGE.
Any suggestions for a main course recipe that will honor this BBQ guru in my life? (I'm leaning toward a beef tenderloin as I think we'll have ten to twelve adults joining us.)
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions! We're headed to VT for the weekend...had to make a choice to either leave the suitcases or egg behind...I got vetoed....

I'd go all out and do a Prime Rib.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

I was also going to say prime rib.

I'm with Gary and Stacie . . . Rib Roast!
-
I agree, you can't go wrong with standing rib roast! If you like mushrooms, I have a great recipe for sauce.
-
Might suggest a rib roast myself. IF he's a true BBQ guru in your life, he might prefer the flavor of the rib eye over the tenderness of tenderloin
as for Vermont. problem solved. WW-SiS lives up there, and she would be happy to have you all over for dinner a couple times this week. i'm sure she won't mind me inviting you over. -
I agree with the rest a standing rib roast is hard to beat.I also like to cook a Crown Roast for a crowd. We cooked this on Christmas day for 15 people and had left overs.

That looks delicious! How many people did that feed?
-
We had 15 but could have feed 3 or 4 more easy.

Fidel, who is one of our forum members did a Beef Wellington at Christmas that looked incredible. It definitely has the "wow" factor, very impressive.

I agree with Reelgem, I would do a beef wellington.
Here is the one I did for Christmas.

FaithHappily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

I cooked the Pork Char Sui the other day on the large.
That was a fantastic cook and a real treat. It is an easy cook and something you could test out before hand. I would recommend the overnight marinade.
Here is the post on the cook.

Thanks, all! Although I was notified via e-mail of the responses, this was the first chance I've had since arriving in VT to get to a computer and see the pictures. I appreciate all the advice!!
