Am I mistaken that this stuff is hard to find? It's all over the place in SoCal. I picked up 12 bags today. $6.97 for a 10# Bag
All bags say made in the USA

They charged you $0.60 more per bag than our Walmart sell it for. All I have found at Walmart is the USA.
-
Dave, did you get it at Walmart? They used to carry it at the store in Palm Desert out here, but haven't had it recently. Need to check again. I think that is the same price I paid. I've been using Cowboy bought at True Value, 20# bag for $17.99.
-
I've been cooking with the green bag stuff.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
Where are you finding the RO? It is getting extremely hard to find down here and when we do it is the Red Bag.
Kent -
I found it at WalMart in Orange, CA for the same price. I did not find it at the WalMart in Westminster, CA. However, it looked like the Westminster store was clearing out from Christmas when I went it. The garden section was nearly empty.
Hopefully, the Orange store will continue to have plenty in stock since that store is closer to me.
I have not seen the green bag. How is it compared to the red bag stuff? -
Thanks for the reminder Thirdeye. Last summer the local K-Mart carried the green bag and I like it better than RO red. Will have to peek in their after the Christmas stuff is gone.
-
Not a bad start. I usually buy 400# at a time (give or take). These are all 20# bags:
-
I think you have enough charcoal to cook the few racks of ribs you have there...
-
yea but those are all the south american kind not the american :P
happy eggin

No wonder the southeast has a problem finding some. LOL
-
I don't know about that. Looks like he may have to do an emergency run for another load.
I thought I was going overboard when I bought three bags a couple weeks ago. -
I know it's considered a "seasonal" item in WI. I guess they think no one cooks outside in the winter months.
-
Only some of those TB. I emptied one pallet and opened another - not sure if I got the last bags of the good stuff or the bad stuff.
I still used it (unlike some people I know who had a week long bonfire in their egg) -
No real excuse for not having it during the winter here in So. Cal. We do not have any issues with grilling year round.
That is the problem with the big box stores that have centralized buying. I see heavy winter coats in stores when it is a balmy 95 degree October day here. No way I want to think about having to wear winter clothes when I am sweating up a storm in a tee shirt and shorts. (Sorry, kind of went off there) :silly: -
So 20# x 20 bags = 400 pounds?
-
Yea, last time I checked.
-
Same stuff just different packaging.
Royal Oak packages for BGE, Krogers and other companies. There is a Blue, Green, Red bagged RO. I think RRP has pictures of the Blue bagged RO.
Finding RO out here is a real hit & miss (mostly miss) chance.

Am I to assume it's the good stuff if it says made in the USA?
Thanks! -
We payed $6.99 per bag of Cowboy Charcoal at The Home Depot today.
-
It's readily available here at 6 bucks a bag.Egging on two larges + 36" Blackstone griddle
-
Grandpas Grub - What is it called in the Kroger's packaging?
-
USA is a forum favorite. I have used Argentina RO with good results, however, I don't use MAPP to light the Argentina blend as it sparks to beat the band.
GG -
It's called Krogers Lump or Krogers Natural Hardwood Lump. Go to any Krogers or Kroger owned store and they will order it in for you if they don't have it on hand. It took 3 days when ordered out here.
I don't remember the bag size or the price.

Keep talking warm and sun and you will get knocked up the side of the head.
It's cold outside.
Well I guess California makes up for it in regulations and taxes so maybe I'll forgive you.
GG -
I have a meat shop that carries it in 20# bags...so I just have what I need and when I make a meat run I can pick up a couple of bags...
-
I even counted the bags to check your math. That bag top in the bottom right almost hid from me :silly:
-
I have been using the green bag also. They stock it at Menards in the MN area. $4.50 a bag.
-
didn't you sell some of that on craigs list???
i gave mine away and burnt it!! ask kim :laugh:happy eggin

wal-mart has the 10 or was it 8.8 lbs bags for about the same price here in NoVA.
-
Did they just jack up the price another 60 cents or was it always more in CA? 14 months ago it was 5.37 on the east coast.
