GG\'s Tunnel-Accelerator in Use Again
NoVA Bill
Posts: 3,005
I must sing GG's praise once more as the Tunnel-Accelerator works ... easiest and quickest lighting of lump on my medium egg yet and a rocket ride to 600+ degrees.
GG's Tunnel-Accelerator is use.
600+ degree in no-time at all
I cooked NY Strips for no.2 son and his girl friend while I tended to kraut and pork for the wife and me. The strips turned out great but I was to busy for a plated pic.
Happy New Year!

Michael, I'm not going to get into alternate naming - too much trouble there. :S
Can't wait for pitchers and catchers to report.
Thanks, -
like your ideal might try it tomorow its pizza day. also like what you did with your nest with the paves stone would be a good place to put a HOT plate setter
-
Thanks, I also use the nest and stone from my mini.

i am pretty excited about granderson and vazquez.

I need to try this with my small. It takes forever to heat up right now.
-
what is it?
-
The 3" vent pipe is too big for the small. Possibly you could hammer it down some. Or pick up some galvanized flashing or patch, available from Home Depot, Lowes or like places.
Use a brick/block or soemthing with square edges to bend into a square. The length should go at least 1.5 inches into the fire box. The length outside the egg doesn't really matter much but 12" to 18" makes for easy handling.
Use Duct tape to keep closed. If you use duct tape, don't leave the tunnel inside the egg while cooking. For starting and getting up to temperature the tunnel won't get hot. The tunnel does not have to be a tight fit, but not too sloppy either.
I haven't tried it on the small but I don't see why it wouldn't work in the same manner.

Bill has a good picture. It is a 3" vent pipe and is inserted in through the lower vent about 1.2" into the fire box.
My medium egg has always taken a long time to light and a long time to get up to temperature. After trying several different 'modifications' the tunnel is the most efficient method for a fast light and high temperatures in my medium.
If you medium lights quick and gets to higher temperatures quickly there is no need for using a tunnel.
