No Holes in Fire Box?

I have watched youtube videos and see holes in the firebox of BGE, mine has no holes except in the bottom cast grate.
Is this something that has currently changed?
Also there are two ceramic rings, a smaller one that goes in the bottom, then one that sits on top of that, do you normally load charcoal to the top of the bottom ceramic ring?
I just want to make sure I am getting the air circulation I need.
Thanks.

 I've never seen a firebox without holes
-
I haven't either....
But I'll wait to see if anybody else has input on this one! -
Can you post the link to the youtube? I must have about six holes in my large firebox. Tim

I just re-read your post.I missed the part about the two ceramic rings at the bottom. Now I'm really intrigued Can you post pics?
-
Are you sure it's a BGE? If so, how old is it? Maybe they did things differently way back when. My brother's medium is about 12 years old, but it still has two rings and holes in the fire box.

I got holes in my large egg firebox. Do you have an XLarge?

Buddy,
You have the same BGE as the rest of us. You need to clean out all that small lump and ash. Your holes in the fire box are likely pluggeg with all the ash you have in there. Above the firebox, you have a 4 inch Fire Ring. Same as the rest of us. Clean the thing out and you'll be good as new! -
Maybe it's something new,but that's the first hole-less firebox that I've seen.I still don't understand the 2 ceramic rings that you mentioned though(but I'm a little slow sometimes :pinch: )
-
Like Tim said, clean that baby out. Then take another picture.
-
I agree with Tim,you need to stir the old lump to let the ash fall to the bottom(so it can be pulled out the bottom vent with the ashtool). That is a mess of ash that you're trying to light Hopefully, you'll find the holes there
-
Ok, so I am stupid
I believe I have been filling this baby up wayyyyyy to much. I guess you only put in as much as you need.Large BGEMeadow Creek TS120 Stick BurnerStoker, BBQ Guru.Erie, Pa. -
 It's amazing how much better it runs when clean and can breath.
-
I thought he did that for the pic. You can't really light a set-up like that....can ya?
Yesterday was my Eggaversary and haven't even seen one in 10 days. -
No,you can still fill it as high as you want, but you need to stir the old lump to let the ash fall to the bottom before starting the next cook :)Just add lump as needed
-
I had a lot built up under the firebox especially in the back, once that was cleaned out it really "ran" great....
-
Thanks everyone for the help, I just did not clean it out enough to see the holes.
I will make sure its cleaned out good from now on, I had let too much ash get in the Fire BoxLarge BGEMeadow Creek TS120 Stick BurnerStoker, BBQ Guru.Erie, Pa. -
Your not driving and doing this at the same time are you?

Don't try to regulate by the amount of charcoal. Fill it up and control it by the air you allow in. When you're done close the vents and the excess charcoal will be there for next time.Ray Lampe Dr. BBQ
