I'm looking for a pair of grill gloves to use with my green egg when cooking and handling hot plate setter, grill grids, etc....you know the drill. Does anyone have any suggestions or warnings?
Thanks!

I use a pair of MIG welding gloves and move fast. They are not as heavy as regular welding gloves but still have a fair amount of leather. I can lift the hot platesetter out and set it down but move quickly or you will feel the heat. I think they sell for around $10 a pair.

big cowhide welding gloves here, some use the orka mittens but im not walking outside the house with those :laugh:fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I have 2 of the "Ove Gloves"

I also have welder's gloves but they aren't for things really hot for any long amounts of time!!! -
I have a pair from the BBQ Guru. They work great!!

I use, dare I say it, Weber mittens. I am able to pick up hot coals with these. I don't hold on to them long, but I can actually pick them up to move them around a bit. The only problem is that they tend to tear and the stuffing comes out.

I use leather gloves that I purchased from my Cincinnati dealer who also sells woodburning fireplaces. He has a line of leather gloves, [not mittens] that are not quite as heavy as welding gloves but work very well. I like them so well that I bought a second pair for my Florida egg since the dealer there sells pool supplies, not woodstoves, go figure

Niner,
I have the "Ove Gloves". I can carry a CI skillet from the grill to the kitchen (25-30 feet) before they start gettin' too hot. They are great for pulling the grate and plate setter when doing ribs. When they get real dirty, just throw them in the wash! That was the one benefit over leather welding gloves.

I just use the Big Green Egg Mittens, never had a problem.

I buy welders gloves (look for the ones that are all leather and come up higher on your arm) from Home Depot or Northern Tool, for about $7 a pair. After a season, and they are good and "used" pitch and replace. I have even washed them with soap and the hose in summer and left out to dry. Work great, no investment! Havent burned myself yet.

I have some 500* rated Orka gloves that I got on woot for like $15. Far and away my best accessory purchase this year. These things are awesome.

Do Not get the Pampered Chef BBQ mitt/ glove with index finger. First time I moved my hot plat setter I burned my hand. I use big cheap oven mitts.
