just finished our christmas eve dinner.. . .roasted a very nice herb encrusted three-bone-in prime rib out on the large egg. .. accompanied by pomme frites and string beans drizzled with melted butter/brown sugar. . .a most eggcellent dinner.. ..everyone enjoyed. .. and now for the umpteenth time, sitting here with the wife watching "its a wonderful life"....wife always cries at the end when harry reads the telegram from wainright and gets the phrase 'hee haw, hee haw'. . .never fails. ...
my favorite line though is at the very end, when they find the bible on the tree and george and zuzu opens it up and there is the passage from clarence the angel that reads "no man is a failure that has friens". . . pretty well sums up my feelings on life....
hope everyone here has a great, peaceful, joyous, safe holiday!!!!

I have A Christmas Story on now,,, "You'll shoot your eye out" :woohoo:  -
LOL. .. if there is someone out there that hasn't seen it yet, shame on them!!!. ...personally i like the saturday night live version with dana carvey, where, after the final auld lang sine scene, they go back to the bank and beat the snot out of old man potter!!!. . .i wish they'd photo shop that into the actual movie!!!. . . what a hoot that would be. . ..

That sounds great Max!
It's a Wonderful Life is a Christmas staple for us.
It just doesn't seem to be Christmas if we don't watch it.
All the best to your and your family! Enjoy the holidays!

Hi Pat:
It's funny that you mentioned A Christmas story.
Anke and I watched it a few nights ago. It was filmed in the Toronto area.
But get this, Anke tells me that it's one of our friends favorite Christmas movies.
We did a google search for the the "Major Award" and found a web site dedicated to that special award lamp. There was a telephone number to order lamps, Christmas tree lights shaped like the special award, etc. so I called them and ordered some lights for my buddy. They couldn't deliver them before Christmas so they invited me to pick it up! It's 10 minutes from my house!
My buddy will be thrilled!
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas!
See you in FLA.

gotta love it.. Prime Rib and French Fries..
:woohoo: -
not just french fries. .classic pomme frites are superb with prime rib. . .better than mashed or a baked spud for soaking up the juices from meat. ..and i take the time and care to do them the right way!!
-
As long as no ketchup touched that prime rib it's all good.
-
LOL,,, I think it's Bente that has a couple of them
-
What's wrong with ketchup?
Isn't that what y'all use to make your BBQ sauce up there? -
my pomme frites are so good that no ketchup touched them either!!!
-
Sort of sums it all up doesn't it?
Thanks for all you do for this group.
Have a wonderful night.
And here is wishing you the best for 2010

I wasn't willing to spring for the $300+ they wanted for the 50" Major Award with Fra Gi Lee shipping crate, but I got these.

We don't put BBQ sauce of Prime Rib either..
Ketchup has it's place, just not on Prime Rib. -
I'm pretty much doing the same dinner tomorrow, happy season to you my friend, my best to you and your family. -RP

I just finished cleaning up after the family devoured a 7 bone-in prime rib. Thanks to your directions it was fabulous. I did, however, have a hard time getting my LBGE to 500 degrees for the initial sear. I took your advice and watched the meat temp and not timed temp for success. It took one less hour for the finished product than we were expecting. I'm not sure what I did wrong...maybe too much lump charcoal. I took the meat off at 122 degrees and let it rest for about 45 minutes because the rest of the dinner was not ready. It still was warm and tasted very well. This was my first cook of prime rib on my new egg. I love it!! And so does my father in law!!!

glad it was good. .. if you left it intact, it probablt cooked fast than the you would have thought based on weight due to its long shape. .. think about the girth vs. lenghth on a 7 bone rib roast. .. cut it in half, the thickness doesn't change, so it doesn't take any longer for the heat to reach the center of the meat. ... so its not going to necessarely going to take twice as long for the center to reach 125 degrees ... had nothing to do with the amount of charcoal. .. .good thing you kept an eye on the temps!!
-
good stuff .. . i saw kim's status over on FB. ..sounds like you are gonna be cooking for a crowd!! merry christmas to the whole gang!! hope you have a great one!!
-
Same to you, Max.

-
