My first use, and the pit probe reads high. MY dome is about 260 and pit shows 350. I finally clipped to dome probe, but have no idea what grate temp is. Any suggestions?

Are you by chance using a platesetter? If so you may have the pit probe to close to the edge of the platesetter and catching all the unreflected heat. Tim

When was the last time you calibrated your dome thermo?

after hooking up to dome prob the readings are the same and have been for last 20 min, so i think i have proven probe ok

I had mine act like that but it was after a couple years of useage and the pit probe had failed, had to order a new one :(

I just sent back a prob back due to the same problem. Mine was reading 325 degrees in ice water and it was right out of the box. Check both probes in boiling h2o and a crushed ice slush to see if the probes are working. I even switched the pit and food probe and tried it again realized the meat probe was way off. Good thing is if it is bad they have great customer service and will send another one right out.
